Wild mountain gorillas are the ideal One Health sentinels – their survival depends on habitat protection, controlling poaching and human conflict, preventing zoonotic disease transmission, and managing tourism activities. Gorilla Doctors, a non-profit organization working in Rwanda, Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo, exemplifies One Health in action. Their innovative program includes providing preventative medicine for people who contact gorillas, monitoring gorilla’s health in the wild, and protecting essential habitats. The University of Global Health Equity (UGHE) is pleased to invite students, faculty and the public to attend an evening of One Health conversation, including a keynote address by Dr. Julius Nziza, the Head Veterinarian for Gorilla Doctors in Rwanda, and followed by One Health debates.
